We at Vewd Software AS (“Vewd”) take your privacy seriously. This privacy statement explains what data we collect, how we store and transfer it and how we use it. The exact set of the data we collect, its purpose and your opt-out choices depend on the product or service you use. Please refer to the relevant product or service sections of this privacy statement to learn more specific details.

Some of the data we collect, either individually or aggregated, may be considered personal. We treat this data in a special way, as required by law.

We’ll always honor your decisions for how your data is used. We have safeguards in place to protect your data from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

When we post changes to this privacy statement, we will include the date when the statement was last updated. We encourage you to review this statement periodically.

Why we collect data?

We only process your data for purposes that are objectively justified by our products and services. We process this data with respect to your fundamental right to privacy, including the need to protect personal integrity and private life and to ensure that your personal data is of adequate quality. Unless otherwise stated, we determine the manner in which your data is collected (in legalese, we act as a “data controller”).
We collect data to:

  • Improve, debug, and maintain our products and services; 

  • Study and personalize the user experience; 

  • Fulfill legal requirements; 

  • Conduct business analysis and research, and to conduct marketing campaigns; and 

  • Ensure better security and fraud protection. 

We may also use the data to send you personalized information regarding updates, upgrades, enhancements, surveys, recommendations and/or advertisements, if we believe these are relevant for you.

What data we collect?

The information we collect may include personal data, for example your name, email, and IP-address; as well as non-personal technical data, for example who manufactured your device. A complete list of the data we collect and purpose of collection vary between our products and services. You can find detailed descriptions in the product/service-related sections below.

How we collect data?

Generally, we collect data:

  • When you provide it explicitly to us — for example, when you submit a form on our websites; 

  • When you use our products and services, or visit our websites; and 

  • When third parties share information with us. 

Some products may require your personal data to function properly. Wherever technically possible, we’ll ask for your consent to collect your personal data and offer you the choice to opt-out. Please read product-specific information to learn how to opt-out.

When we collect your data, we associate it with a unique ID that is generated when you begin using one of our services. These identifiers are anonymized and cannot be linked to you as an individual person. We also take measures to remove any possible connections between these IDs and other types of personal data.

To collect information automatically, we use cookies, web beacons, our own data-collection tools or various third-party services.

Some third-party sites may monitor data traffic from our products and services, such as numbers of hits. We do not make available any personally identifiable information to these services.

This privacy statement does not cover third-party content, apps or websites you access or use through our products and services. We do not control the privacy and security practices or policies of these third parties and their apps/sites. We encourage you to read the privacy statements which apply to the third-party content, apps and websites you use.

How we protect your data?

We treat your personal data as required by law. We are a Norwegian company and we follow Norwegian data-security laws as well as other national legislation, as needed. We require that our suppliers successfully pass security assessments and prove their compliance with applicable laws and industry standards.

Only a limited number of Vewd employees have access to the data we collect. We review and update our working procedures regularly to improve your privacy and ensure that our internal policies are followed. We strive to promptly correct any non-conformance with these policies.

How we share your data?

We may share your data:

  • To government bodies and law enforcement agencies to comply with the law, for example in judicial proceedings, by court order or other legal process; 

  • To third parties (including professional advisors) to enforce or defend our legal rights, including our terms of service and/or end user license agreement; 

  • To a third-party purchaser or seller (including professional advisors) in connection with a corporate event such as a merger, business acquisition or insolvency situation; and 

  • As described elsewhere in this statement. 

Some of our products and services include third-party technology or code that may use the collected data. We may share anonymized and/or aggregated sets of data with our partners and other trusted third parties.

Because we are an international company with data-centers around the world, your data may be transferred to countries which do not have the same level of data protection laws as those in the country where you are located. We will ensure that your data is protected to a strict standard.

What else should I know?

We aim to be transparent as to what data we collect and how we use it. Your rights are not limited to consent and opt-out choices only. If you’ve provided personal information to us, you may change or modify this information at any time.

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for processing it in accordance with the purposes described in this statement, or as otherwise necessary to comply with applicable laws. When your data is no longer necessary or relevant for our purposes, or required by applicable laws, we take steps to have it deleted, aggregated or made anonymous.

You can find out if we hold any personal data about you by contacting us. You may be asked to prove your identification so that we can verify who is making the request. If we hold information about you, you can ask us to correct any mistakes and delete any excessive information.

Products and services

A. THE BROWSER

This section of the privacy statement describes the data Vewd collects in connection with its Browser for connected devices (the “Browser“).

The installed version of the Browser on a device contains a unique ID that cannot be linked to any individual person. This unique ID is required for auto-updates of the Browser and is also used to count the number of unique users per country, and the frequency of use. This aggregated and anonymized data is collected to improve the Browser.

The Browser provides a built-in, web search feature that allows users access to external web search engines directly from the browser interface. The Browser relies on third parties for this service. It sends search requests in a specially-designed URL string directly to third-party websites that process the search queries and results. The Browser also sends the text terms needed to perform the particular search query. It does not send any personal information.

B. THE VEWD APP STORE

This section of the privacy statement describes how Vewd handles the data it collects in relation to the “Vewd” content discovery service and web portal for connected devices (the “App Store”).

Vewd may collect the following data from you to be able to operate the App Store: the time and location of your engagement with the App Store, which content you access from the App Store, your IP address, your HTTP user-agent (e.g., what device you are using), your device model number, the unique identifier for the App Store on your device, and various usage and technical statistics (including error and activity counters).

Vewd collects this data to be able to operate the App Store, and to debug, maintain and improve the App Store. This includes use of your information to improve your experience when using the App Store, such as providing personalised content recommendations. Vewd may also use collected data to send you information regarding update downloading, upgrades, enhancements, surveys, or to send/show advertisements, including advertisements that we believe are relevant for you. Advertisements on the App Store are provided by a third party advertising service provider: AdColony Incorporated. Vewd also uses third party analytics tools to better understand how users interact with the App Store. In particular, Vewd uses Google Analytics to collect information about how users engage with the App Store so we can compile reports and make improvements, as well as generate user demographics. Information collected includes user interactions with the App Store’s user interface and with the content (e.g., which videos are watched, for how long etc.). Vewd may share the aggregated and/or anonymized data collected via this third party analytics tool with its distribution partners.

We use cookies to collect information about how users use the App Store so we can compile reports and make improvements, as well as identify user demographics. The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visits, where users have come from and the pages / apps they visited.

This privacy statement does not cover the third party websites, services or applications you may access and use from the App Store. Such content is offered and hosted by third party content providers. Content providers may collect data such as you IP address and the HTTP user-agent if you access their content. Certain content providers may use their own third party analytics providers to obtain metrics on how users engage with their content. This helps content providers improve content and functionality and understand user demographics. Information collected by content providers may include the time and location of your activities, a unique id, video specific information not related to content (e.g., resolution) and video events (e.g., start, stop etc.). Please note that Vewd does not control the privacy and security practices or policies of these third parties. Content providers are responsible for their own privacy and data gathering practices and you should review the relevant privacy and data gathering practices of the providers offering the third party content.

C. THE VEWD SNAP TOOL

This section of the privacy statement describes how Vewd handles the data it receives when a third party content service provider (“Provider”) uses Vewd’s Snap tool to facilitate the efficient delivery of that Provider’s content to you.

Snap” is a content delivery tool designed for use by Providers. When used by a Provider, Vewd receives information via the Provider’s application utilizing the Snap technology. As such, Vewd relies on Providers to inform you about the purposes for which they collect and use information related to their applications, some of which they may pass on to Vewd. In general, if a Provider utilizes the Snap tool in its application, Vewd may collect the following data associated with the use of that application: the time and location of engagement with the application, which content is accessed from the application, the IP address and HTTP user-agent of the user of the application, the device model number, the unique identifier for the application on your device, and various usage and technical statistics (including error and activity counters).

Vewd collects this data to be able to operate the Snap tool, and to debug, maintain and improve Snap. This includes use of the information to improve the user experience of the users of Snap enabled applications, such as providing personalised content recommendations. Vewd may also use collected data to send you information regarding update downloading, upgrades, enhancements, surveys, or to send/show advertisements, including advertisements that we believe are relevant for you.

Providers may direct Vewd to provide advertising services within their applications. If this is the case, advertisements are provided by Vewd’s third party advertising service provider: AdColony Incorporated. Snap also uses third party analytics tools to better understand how users interact with the Snap enabled applications. In particular, Snap uses Google Analytics to collect information about how users engage with the applications so as to compile reports and make improvements, as well as generate user demographics. D. TV Emulator

This section of the privacy statement describes the data Vewd collects in connection with its tool for emulating connected devices for development purposes (the “TV Emulator”).

The installed version of the TV Emulator on a device contains a unique ID that cannot be linked to any individual person. This unique ID is required for count the number of unique users per country, and the frequency of use, generic application type initiated in the TV Emulator and the number of times each application type is initiated. Websites/URLs visited are not collected. This aggregated and anonymized data is collected to improve the TV Emulator and monitor its use.
